older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters – with complete purity.

Now Elihu had waited before speaking ¹  to Job, because the others ²  were older than he was.

¹  it was said to her, “The older will serve the younger,” ² 

The gray-haired ¹  and the aged are on our side, ²  men far older than your father. ³ 

Do not address an older man harshly ¹  but appeal to him as a father. Speak to younger men as brothers, ² 

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, ¹  sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. ² 

“Now his older son was in the field. As ¹  he came and approached the house, he heard music ²  and dancing.

Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.

(Now Laban had two daughters; ¹  the older one was named Leah, and the younger one Rachel.

When ¹  Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he was almost blind, ²  he called his older ³  son Esau and said to him, “My son!” “Here I am!” Esau ⁴  replied.

Your older sister was Samaria, who lived north ¹  of you with her daughters, and your younger sister, who lived south ²  of you, was Sodom ³  with her daughters.

Then you will remember your conduct, and be ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on account of my covenant with you.

“It is not our custom here,” ¹  Laban replied, “to give the younger daughter in marriage ²  before the firstborn.

The king responded to the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the older men
