Hezekiah answered, “It is easy for the shadow to lengthen ten steps, but not for it ¹  to go back ten steps.”

Look, I will make the shadow go back ten steps on the stairs of Ahaz.” ¹  And then the shadow went back ten steps. ² 

“Surely now you count my steps; ²  then you would not mark ³  my sin. ⁴ 

His vigorous steps ¹  are restricted, ²  and his own counsel throws him down. ³ 

Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?

I would give him an accounting of my steps; like a prince I would approach him.

Direct my steps by your word! ¹  Do not let any sin dominate me!

Isaiah replied, “This is your sign from the Lord confirming that the Lord will do what he has said. Do you want the shadow to move ahead ten steps or to go back ten steps?” ¹ 

And you must not go up by steps to my altar, so that your nakedness is not exposed.’ ¹

For his eyes are on the ways of an individual, he observes all a person’s ¹  steps.

When you walk, your steps ¹  will not be hampered, ²  and when you run, ³  you will not stumble.

The steps of a person ¹  are ordained by ²  the Lord – so how can anyone ³  understand his own ⁴  way?
