My soul ¹  pursues you; ²  your right hand upholds me.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

And Mary ¹  said, ²  “My soul exalts ³  the Lord, ⁴ 

And another man ¹  dies in bitterness of soul, ²  never having tasted ³  anything good.

“And now my soul pours itself out within me; ¹  days of suffering take hold of me.

Have I not wept for the unfortunate? ¹  Was not my soul grieved for the poor?

so that his life loathes food, and his soul rejects appetizing fare. ¹ 

Awake, my soul! ¹  Awake, O stringed instrument and harp! I will wake up at dawn! ² 

Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! ¹  For he is the one who gives me confidence. ² 

As if with choice meat ¹  you satisfy my soul. ²  My mouth joyfully praises you, ³ 

Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds! ¹ 

Rest once more, my soul, ¹  for the Lord has vindicated you. ² 

A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools abhor ¹  turning away from evil.

Pleasant words are like ¹  a honeycomb, ²  sweet to the soul and healing ³  to the bones.

my soul ¹  will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. ² 

Do ¹  not be afraid of those who kill the body ²  but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. ³ 

“Why does God ²  give ³  light to one who is in misery, ⁴  and life to those ⁵  whose soul is bitter,

“I ¹  am weary ²  of my life; I will complain without restraint; ³  I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
