But Peter ¹  said to him, “Explain this parable to us.”

He appointed twelve: ¹  To Simon ²  he gave the name Peter;

Then Peter denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed. ¹ 

Then he came to Simon Peter. Peter ¹  said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash ²  my feet?”

(Now Jesus ¹  said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter ²  was going to glorify God.) ³  After he said this, Jesus told Peter, ⁴  “Follow me.”

Simon Peter answered, ¹  “You are the Christ, ²  the Son of the living God.”

He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became anguished and distressed.

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, ¹  and John, the brother of James.

He spoke openly about this. So ¹  Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

Peter began to speak to him, “Look, ¹  we have left everything to follow you!” ² 

Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered.”

Peter said to him, “Even if they all fall away, I will not!”

He took Peter, James, ¹  and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

Simon ¹  (whom he named Peter), and his brother Andrew; and James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, ² 

Then ¹  Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?” ² 

And Peter said, “Look, we have left everything we own ¹  to follow you!” ² 

Jesus ¹  sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover ²  for us to eat.” ³ 

But Peter ¹  denied it: “Woman, ²  I don’t know ³  him!”

(Now Philip was from Bethsaida, ¹  the town of ²  Andrew and Peter.)

One of Jesus’ disciples, ¹  Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,
