I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past. ¹ 

In ¹  past ²  generations he allowed all the nations ³  to go their own ways,

About forty thousand battle-ready troops ¹  marched past the Lord to fight ²  on the plains of Jericho. ³ 

He remembered ¹  that they were made of flesh, and were like a wind that blows past and does not return. ² 

The offerings ¹  of Judah and Jerusalem ²  will be pleasing to the Lord as in former times and years past.

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

“I have been with you for the past twenty years. Your ewes and female goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten rams from your flocks.
