As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,

God said to him, “Your name is Jacob, but your name will no longer be called Jacob; Israel will be your name.” So God named him Israel. ¹ 

The Lord is a warrior, ¹  the Lord is his name. ² 

Now the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah. ¹ 

O Lord, your name endures, ¹  your reputation, O Lord, lasts. ² 

And in his name the Gentiles ¹  will hope.” ² 

He appointed twelve: ¹  To Simon ²  he gave the name Peter;

You will be hated by everyone because of my name. ¹

You must not swear falsely ¹  in my name, so that you do not profane ²  the name of your God. I am the Lord.

Then ¹  the first son ²  she bears will continue the name of the dead brother, thus preventing his name from being blotted out of Israel.

He had two wives; the name of the first was Hannah and the name of the second was Peninnah. Now Peninnah had children, but Hannah was childless.

The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second son was Abijah. They were judges in Beer Sheba.

Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Exalt the one who rides on the clouds! ¹  For the Lord is his name! ²  Rejoice before him!

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
