Serve ¹  the Lord in fear! Repent in terror! ² 

Fear and panic overpower me; ¹  terror overwhelms ²  me.

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” ¹ 

But I will warn ¹  you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing, ²  has authority to throw you ³  into hell. ⁴  Yes, I tell you, fear him!

There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. ¹  The ²  one who fears punishment ³  has not been perfected in love.

(for rulers cause no fear for good conduct but for bad). Do you desire not to fear authority? Do good and you will receive its commendation,

“‘You must keep my Sabbaths and fear my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

You must not rule over him harshly, ¹  but you must fear your God.

Foreigners lose their courage; ¹  they shake with fear ²  as they leave ³  their strongholds. ⁴ 

Then ¹  would I speak and not fear him, but it is not so with me. ² 

Would not his splendor ¹  terrify ²  you and the fear he inspires ³  fall on you?

That is why snares surround you, and why sudden fear terrifies you,

Therefore no fear of me should terrify you, nor should my pressure ¹  be heavy on you. ² 

Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart.” ¹ 

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.

The likes of it is not on earth, a creature ¹  without fear.

foreigners lose their courage; ¹  they shake with fear ²  as they leave ³  their strongholds. ⁴ 

Come children! Listen to me! I will teach you what it means to fear the Lord. ¹ 

When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, ¹  I make its pillars secure.” ²  (Selah)

(May those who hate the Lord ¹  cower in fear ²  before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) ³
