“Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense ¹  that I now ²  make to you.”

Fathers, ¹  do not provoke ²  your children, so they will not become disheartened.

“There your fathers tested me and tried me, ¹  and they saw my works for forty years.

So ¹  the rich man ²  said, ‘Then I beg you, father – send Lazarus ³  to my father’s house

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, ¹  and you people ²  say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem.” ³ 

Fathers, ¹  do not provoke your children to anger, ²  but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? ¹  Yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. ² 

But ¹  he replied, ²  “Why were you looking for me? ³  Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” ⁴ 

To those who sold the doves he said, “Take these things away from here! Do not make ¹  my Father’s house a marketplace!” ² 

I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept ¹  me. If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept ²  him.

Jesus replied, ¹  “I told you and you do not believe. The deeds ²  I do in my Father’s name testify about me.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, ¹  and no one can snatch ²  them from my Father’s hand.

The person who does not love me does not obey ¹  my words. And the word ²  you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

If you obey ¹  my commandments, you will remain ²  in my love, just as I have obeyed ³  my Father’s commandments and remain ⁴  in his love.

So he replied, ¹  “Brothers and fathers, listen to me. The God of glory appeared to our forefather ²  Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,

At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful ¹  to God. For ²  three months he was brought up in his father’s house,

In regard to the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but in regard to election they are dearly loved for the sake of the fathers.

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised ¹  on behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers, ² 

For though you may have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, because I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

For I do not want you to be unaware, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea,
