and if ¹  I ask you, you will not ²  answer.

For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom,

“Ask for a confirming sign from the Lord your God. You can even ask for something miraculous.” ¹ 

The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but then night. ¹  If you want to ask, ask; come back again.” ² 

Why do you ask me? Ask those who heard what I said. ¹  They ²  know what I said.”

you ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so you can spend it on your passions.

And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, ¹  you will receive.”

He swore to her, ¹  “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.” ²
