Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother who was also a mother to me. ¹ 

You must not have sexual intercourse with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s flesh.

They will be divided, ¹  father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

You must not ¹  expose your father’s nakedness by having sexual intercourse with your mother. ²  She is your mother; you must not have intercourse with her.

For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

For God said, ¹  ‘Honor your father and mother’ ²  and ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’ ³ 

Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ ¹  and, ‘Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to death.’ ² 

So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, ¹  look, here is your son!”

The words of King Lemuel, ¹  an oracle ²  that his mother taught him:

“Son of man, there were two women who were daughters of the same mother.

honor your father and mother, ¹  and love your neighbor as yourself.” ² 

He answered them and said, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” ¹ 

For whoever does the will of God is ¹  my brother and sister and mother.”

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother, ¹ 

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where the body ¹  was placed.

But the Jerusalem above is free, ¹  and she is our mother.
