You counted the houses in Jerusalem, ¹  and demolished houses so you could have material to reinforce the wall. ² 

I increased my possessions: ¹  I built houses for myself; ²  I planted vineyards for myself.

They will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

We have not built any houses to live in. We do not own any vineyards, fields, or crops.

or with princes who possessed gold, ¹  who filled their palaces ²  with silver.

I will destroy both the winter and summer houses. ¹  The houses filled with ivory ²  will be ruined, the great ³  houses will be swept away.” ⁴  The Lord is speaking!

When you eat your fill, when you build and occupy good houses,

In the dark the robber ¹  breaks into houses, ²  but by day they shut themselves in; ³  they do not know the light. ⁴

But it was he ¹  who filled their houses with good things – yet the counsel of the wicked ²  was far from me. ³ 

Their children will be smashed to pieces before their very eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives raped.

he lived in ruined towns ¹  and in houses where ²  no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. ³ 

He burned down the Lord’s temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem, including every large house.

For I, the Lord God of Israel, have something more to say about the houses in this city and the royal buildings which have been torn down for defenses against the siege ramps and military incursions of the Babylonians: ¹
