“I said, ‘I want to cut them in pieces. ¹  I want to make people forget they ever existed.

I rashly declared, ¹  “All men are liars.”

ח (Khet) The Lord is my source of security. ¹  I have determined ²  to follow your instructions. ³ 

Pay attention and listen to my message! ¹  Be attentive and listen to what I have to say! ² 

The waters closed over my head; I thought ¹  I was about to die. ² 

“Have I ¹  ever said, ²  ‘Give me something, and from your fortune ³  make gifts ⁴  in my favor’?

If ¹  I say, ²  “My bed will comfort me, ³  my couch will ease ⁴  my complaint,”

“If I have put my confidence in gold or said to pure gold, ‘You are my security!’

I said to myself, ‘Age ¹  should speak, ²  and length of years ³  should make wisdom known.’

Therefore I say, ‘Listen ¹  to me. I, even I, will explain what I know.’

In my self-confidence I said, “I will never be upended.” ¹ 

But I trust in you, O Lord! I declare, “You are my God!”

If I had publicized these thoughts, ¹  I would have betrayed your loyal followers. ² 

I thought, ¹  ‘You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.’ ² 

If I say, “My foot is slipping,” your loyal love, O Lord, supports me.

I said of partying, ¹  “It is folly,” and of self-indulgent pleasure, ²  “It accomplishes nothing!” ³ 

So now, go back where you came from! ¹  I said that I would greatly honor you; but now the Lord has stood in the way of your honor.”

My teaching will drop like the rain, my sayings will drip like the dew, ¹  as rain drops upon the grass, and showers upon new growth.

The Lord’s messenger told ¹  Manoah, “Your wife should pay attention to everything I told her. ² 

When they came back, Elisha ¹  was staying in Jericho. He said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”
