God said, ¹  “Let there be ²  light.” ³  And there was light!

When morning came, ¹  the men and their donkeys were sent off. ² 

They grope about in darkness ¹  without light; he makes them stagger ²  like drunkards.

The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished. ¹ 

He has searched ¹  the sources ²  of the rivers and what was hidden he has brought into the light.

The godly bask in the light; the morally upright experience joy. ¹ 

He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain,

The light ¹  of the righteous shines brightly, ²  but the lamp ³  of the wicked goes out. ⁴ 

He drove me into captivity ¹  and made me walk ²  in darkness and not light.

(9:1) The people walking in darkness see a bright light; ¹  light shines on those who live in a land of deep darkness. ²

“Why does God ²  give ³  light to one who is in misery, ⁴  and life to those ⁵  whose soul is bitter,

These men ¹  change ²  night into day; they say, ³  ‘The light is near in the face of darkness.’ ⁴ 

“Yes, ¹  the lamp ²  of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire ³  does not shine.

Whatever you decide ¹  on a matter, it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways.

if I looked at the sun ¹  when it was shining, and the moon advancing as a precious thing,

With his hands ¹  he covers ²  the lightning, and directs it against its target.

Do you know how God commands them, ¹  how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? ² 

Its snorting throws out flashes of light; its eyes are like the red glow ¹  of dawn.

For you are the one who gives and sustains life. ¹
