Then call, ¹  and I will answer, or I will speak, and you respond to me.

Bear with me ¹  and I ²  will speak, and after I have spoken ³  you may mock. ⁴ 

You said, ¹  ‘Pay attention, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’

I had faith when I said, “I am severely oppressed.”

I am committed to peace, ¹  but when I speak, they want to make war. ² 

Pay attention, Job – listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.

You held my eyelids open; ¹  I was troubled and could not speak. ² 

Listen, for I will speak excellent things, ¹  and my lips will utter ²  what is right.

And there are times when I promise to build up and establish ¹  a nation or kingdom.

Bathsheba replied, “That’s fine, ¹  I’ll speak to the king on your behalf.”

But Micaiah said, “As certainly as the Lord lives, I will say what the Lord tells me to say.”

But Micaiah said, “As certainly as the Lord lives, I will say what my God tells me to say!”

But I wish to speak ¹  to the Almighty, ²  and I desire to argue ³  my case ⁴  with God.

Should he be informed that I want ¹  to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up!

What can I say? He has decreed and acted. ¹  I will walk slowly all my years because I am overcome with grief. ² 

No, ¹  a wind too strong for that will come at my bidding. Yes, even now I, myself, am calling down judgment on them.’ ² 

There are times, Jeremiah, ¹  when I threaten to uproot, tear down, and destroy a nation or kingdom. ² 

But if you diligently obey him ¹  and do all that I command, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will be an adversary to your adversaries.

The Lord ¹  said, “Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, ²  I the Lord ³  will make myself known to him in a vision; I will speak with him in a dream.
