The Lord called to Samuel, and he replied, “Here I am!”

The gatekeepers relayed the news to the royal palace. ¹ 

But the Lord God called to ¹  the man and said to him, “Where are you?” ² 

The Lord’s angel called to Abraham a second time from heaven

So Jacob sent a message for Rachel and Leah ¹  to come to the field ²  where his flocks were. ³ 

There he set up an altar and called it “The God of Israel is God.” ¹ 

She became pregnant ¹  and had a son. Judah named ²  him Er.

Moses built an altar, and he called it “The Lord is my Banner,” ¹ 

When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me. I answered, ‘Here I am!’

Elisha told him, “Ask her to come here.” ¹  So he did so ²  and she came and stood in the doorway. ³ 

He called down a famine upon the earth; he cut off all the food supply. ¹ 

God called the expanse “sky.” ¹  There was evening, and there was morning, a second day.

God called the dry ground “land” ¹  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

The man ¹  named his wife Eve, ²  because ³  she was the mother of all the living. ⁴ 

He created them male and female; when they were created, he blessed them and named them “humankind.” ¹ 

When ¹  Adam had lived 130 years he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and he named him Seth.

This was the place where he had first built the altar, ¹  and there Abram worshiped the Lord. ² 

So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, whom Abram named Ishmael. ¹ 

Abraham named his son – whom Sarah bore to him – Isaac. ¹ 

Abraham ¹  planted a tamarisk tree ²  in Beer Sheba. There he worshiped the Lord, ³  the eternal God.
