The Lord told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid of them, for I am handing them over to you. ¹  Not one of them can resist you.” ² 

So I responded to you, “Do not be terrified ¹  of them!

These are the ones you may not eat: the eagle, ¹  the vulture, ²  the black vulture, ³ 

“They are dismayed ²  and cannot answer any more; they have nothing left to say. ³ 

The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived. ¹ 

Thorns and snares ¹  are in the path of the perverse, but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.

And I will choose some of them as priests and Levites,” says the Lord.

According to their uncleanness and rebellion I have dealt with them, and I hid my face from them.

All these had taken foreign wives, and some of them also had children by these women. ¹ 

I constructed pools of water for myself, to irrigate my grove ¹  of flourishing trees.

Out of those places you will hear songs of thanksgiving ¹  and the sounds of laughter and merriment. I will increase their number and they will not dwindle away. ²  I will bring them honor and they will no longer be despised.

I will turn my face away from them and they will desecrate my treasured place. ¹  Vandals will enter it and desecrate it. ² 

Although they bring their flocks and herds ¹  to seek ²  the favor of the Lord, ³  They will not find him – he has withdrawn himself from them!

The land will be abandoned by them ¹  in order that it may make up for ²  its Sabbaths while it is made desolate ³  without them, ⁴  and they will make up for their iniquity because ⁵  they have rejected my regulations and have abhorred ⁶  my statutes.

Moses was very angry, and he said to the Lord, “Have no respect ¹  for their offering! I have not taken so much as one donkey from them, nor have I harmed any one of them!”

These you may eat from them: ¹  the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, the grasshopper of any kind.

As for any clay vessel they fall into, ¹  everything in it ²  will become unclean and you must break it.

But the garment or the warp or the woof or any article of leather which you wash and infection disappears from it ¹  is to be washed a second time and it will be clean.”

“‘As for your male and female slaves ¹  who may belong to you – you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. ² 

Also you may buy slaves ¹  from the children of the foreigners who reside with you, and from their families that are ²  with you, whom they have fathered in your land, they may become your property.
