By the breath ¹  of God they perish, ²  and by the blast ³  of his anger they are consumed.

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. ¹ 

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

To whom ¹  did you utter these words? And whose spirit has come forth from your mouth? ² 

for while ¹  my spirit ²  is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,

But it is a spirit in people, the breath ¹  of the Almighty, that makes them understand.

If God ¹  were to set his heart on it, ²  and gather in his spirit and his breath,

The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid.

The human spirit ¹  is like ²  the lamp ³  of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts. ⁴ 

Everything on dry land that had the breath of life ¹  in its nostrils died.

The depths ¹  of the sea were exposed; the inner regions ²  of the world were uncovered by the Lord’s battle cry, ³  by the powerful breath from his nose. ⁴

Stop trusting in human beings, whose life’s breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration?

The Lord God formed ¹  the man from the soil of the ground ²  and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, ³  and the man became a living being. ⁴ 

As for the cities of these peoples that ¹  the Lord your God is going to give you as an inheritance, you must not allow a single living thing ²  to survive.

They annihilated everyone who lived there with the sword ¹  – no one who breathed remained – and burned ²  Hazor.

This is what the true God, ¹  the Lord, says – the one who created the sky and stretched it out, the one who fashioned the earth and everything that lives on it, ²  the one who gives breath to the people on it, and life to those who live on it: ³ 

For I will not be hostile ¹  forever or perpetually angry, for then man’s spirit would grow faint before me, ²  the life-giving breath I created.

Joshua defeated the whole land, including the hill country, the Negev, the lowlands, ¹  the slopes, and all their kings. He left no survivors. He annihilated everything that breathed, just as the Lord God of Israel had commanded.

When he became king, he executed Jeroboam’s entire family. He wiped out everyone who breathed, ¹  just as the Lord had predicted ²  through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.
