He did not humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had done. ¹  Amon was guilty of great sin. ² 

Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority. ¹ 

So he used suffering to humble them; ¹  they stumbled and no one helped them up.

The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is just.” ¹ 

But some men from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot! ¹

Israel humiliated Moab that day, and the land had rest for eighty years.

That day God humiliated King Jabin of Canaan before the Israelites.

In his pain ¹  Manasseh ²  asked the Lord his God for mercy ³  and truly ⁴  humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. ⁵ 

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, the Lord’s spokesman.

like heat ¹  in a dry land, you humble the boasting foreigners. ²  Just as the shadow of a cloud causes the heat to subside, ³  so he causes the song of tyrants to cease. ⁴ 

“Have you noticed how Ahab shows remorse ¹  before me? Because he shows remorse before me, I will not bring disaster on his dynasty during his lifetime, but during the reign of his son.” ² 

When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, he gave this message to Shemaiah: ¹  “They have humbled themselves, so I will not destroy them. I will deliver them soon. ²  My anger will not be unleashed against ³  Jerusalem through ⁴  Shishak.

‘You displayed a sensitive spirit ¹  and humbled yourself before God when you heard his words concerning this place and its residents. You humbled yourself before me, tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,’ says the Lord.

(and I myself will walk in hostility against them and bring them into the land of their enemies), and ¹  then their uncircumcised hearts become humbled and they make up for ²  their iniquity,

The Israelites humiliated Midian; the Midianites’ fighting spirit was broken. ¹  The land had rest for forty years during Gideon’s time. ² 

So the Philistines were defeated; they did not invade Israel again. The hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

Later David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. David took Metheg Ammah ¹  from the Philistines. ² 

and during the time when I appointed judges to lead my people Israel. I will subdue all your enemies. “‘“I declare to you that the Lord will build a dynastic house ¹  for you!
