The Lord’s shout shakes ¹  the wilderness, the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ² 

But just watch! ¹  The wrath of the Lord will come like a storm! ²  Like a raging storm it will rage down ³  on the heads of those who are wicked.

I will ignite a fire in Egypt; Syene ¹  will writhe in agony, Thebes will be broken down, and Memphis will face enemies every day.

You have forgotten ¹  the Rock who fathered you, and put out of mind the God who gave you birth.

“Were you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?

“The dead ²  tremble ³  – those beneath the waters and all that live in them. ⁴ 

His lightning bolts light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

It is good to wait patiently ¹  for deliverance from the Lord. ²

“Are you acquainted with the way ¹  the mountain goats ²  give birth? Do you watch as the wild deer give birth to their young?

Look, I was guilty of sin from birth, a sinner the moment my mother conceived me. ¹ 

My heart beats violently ¹  within me; the horrors of death overcome me. ² 

Worship the Lord in holy attire! ¹  Tremble before him, all the earth!

Tremble, O earth, before the Lord – before the God of Jacob,

When there were no deep oceans ¹  I was born, ²  when there were no springs overflowing ³  with water;

The north wind ¹  brings forth rain, and a gossiping tongue ²  brings forth ³  an angry look. ⁴ 

Like an archer who wounds at random, ¹  so is the one who hires ²  a fool or hires any passer-by.

Danger awaits one who says ¹  to his father, “What in the world ²  are you fathering?” and to his mother, “What in the world are you bringing forth?” ³
