Do not exploit ¹  a poor person because he is poor and do not crush the needy in court, ² 

and you must not show partiality ¹  to a poor man in his lawsuit.

Thus the poor have hope, and iniquity ¹  shuts its mouth. ² 

His sons must recompense ¹  the poor; his own hands ²  must return his wealth.

Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! ¹  Vindicate the oppressed and suffering!

Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power ¹  of the wicked!

He raises the poor from the dirt, and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile, ¹ 

It is trampled underfoot by the feet of the oppressed, by the soles of the poor.”

For he has oppressed the poor and abandoned them; ¹  he has seized a house which he did not build. ² 

If I have refused to give the poor what they desired, ¹  or caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

so that they caused ¹  the cry of the poor to come before him, so that he hears ²  the cry of the needy.

He will take pity ¹  on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save.

The wealth of a rich person is like ¹  a fortified city, ²  but the poor are brought to ruin ³  by ⁴  their poverty.

The one who oppresses ¹  the poor insults ²  his Creator, but whoever shows favor ³  to the needy honors him.

Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated ¹  from his friend. ² 

The one who is gracious ¹  to the poor lends ²  to the Lord, and the Lord ³  will repay him ⁴  for his good deed. ⁵ 

A generous person ¹  will be blessed, ²  for he gives some of his food ³  to the poor.

The one who oppresses the poor to increase his own gain and the one who gives to the rich ¹  – both end up only in poverty.

A poor person ¹  who oppresses the weak is like ²  a driving rain without food. ³ 

The one who increases his wealth by increasing interest ¹  gathers it for someone who is gracious ²  to the needy.
