The woman said to him, “Sir, I see ¹  that you are a prophet.

Yet the Most High ¹  does not live in houses made by human hands, ²  as the prophet says,

While we remained there for a number of days, ¹  a prophet named Agabus ²  came down from Judea.

And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth ¹  in Galilee.”

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

But if we say, ‘From people – ’” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

And you, child, ¹  will be called the prophet ²  of the Most High. ³  For you will go before ⁴  the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁵ 

And he added, ¹  “I tell you the truth, ²  no prophet is acceptable ³  in his hometown.

while others were saying that Elijah ¹  had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen. ² 

(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) ¹ 

When they heard these words, some of the crowd ¹  began to say, “This really ²  is the Prophet!” ³ 

If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that what I write to you is the Lord’s command.

A certain one of them, in fact, one of their own prophets, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” ¹ 

And so they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”

They ¹  answered, ²  “John the Baptist; others say Elijah; ³  and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has risen.” ⁴ 

So they asked him, “Then who are you? ¹  Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not!” ²  “Are you the Prophet?” ³  He answered, “No!”

John ¹  said, “I am the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Make straight ²  the way for the Lord,’ ³  as Isaiah the prophet said.”

So they asked John, ¹  “Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, ²  nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

Now when the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus ¹  performed, they began to say to one another, “This is certainly the Prophet ²  who is to come into the world.” ³ 

They replied, ¹  “You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? ²  Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet ³  comes from Galilee!”
