until the day he was taken up to heaven, ¹  after he had given orders ²  by ³  the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

to the praise of the glory of his grace ¹  that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son. ² 

that he lavished on us in all wisdom and insight.

For he did not put the world to come, ¹  about which we are speaking, ²  under the control of angels.

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.” ¹ 

In fact, if they had been thinking of the land that they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom ¹  Jesus was born, who is called Christ. ²

Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to ¹  a different tribe, and no one from that tribe ²  has ever officiated at the altar.

for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

For he was looking forward to the city with firm foundations, ¹  whose architect and builder is God.

By faith they crossed the Red Sea as if on dry ground, but when the Egyptians tried it, they were swallowed up.

But if you do not experience discipline, ¹  something all sons ²  have shared in, then you are illegitimate and are not sons.

and the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words ¹  such that those who heard begged to hear no more. ² 

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe.

Concerning this salvation, ¹  the prophets ²  who predicted the grace that would come to you ³  searched and investigated carefully.
