When he came to the place, ¹  he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” ² 

He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!

In my zeal for God I persecuted the church. According to the righteousness stipulated in the law I was blameless.

But when he arrived in Rome, ¹  he eagerly searched for me and found me.

Thus he became ¹  so far better than the angels as ²  he has inherited a name superior to theirs.

By faith, when he grew up, Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,

Although it grieved the king deeply, ¹  he did not want to reject her request because of his oath and his guests.

Then ¹  they came to Capernaum. ²  After Jesus ³  was inside the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

This Jesus ¹  is the stone that was rejected by you, ²  the builders, that has become the cornerstone. ³ 

Calling for lights, the jailer ¹  rushed in and fell down ²  trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas.

but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, ¹  by looking like other men, ²  and by sharing in human nature. ³ 

where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. ¹ 

And in his anguish ¹  he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.] ² 

(Now this man Judas ¹  acquired a field with the reward of his unjust deed, ²  and falling headfirst ³  he burst open in the middle and all his intestines ⁴  gushed out.

‘I am the God of your forefathers, ¹  the God of Abraham, Isaac, ²  and Jacob.’ ³  Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look more closely. ⁴ 

Immediately an angel of the Lord ¹  struck ²  Herod ³  down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died. ⁴ 

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming ¹  a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) ² 

For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

Happy is the one ¹  who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God ²  promised to those who love him.

This is the man who was in the congregation ¹  in the wilderness ²  with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, ³  and he ⁴  received living oracles ⁵  to give to you. ⁶
