This is the record of the genealogy ¹  of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

and Jesse the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon (by the wife of Uriah ¹ ),

Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant ¹  of David ²  and comes from Bethlehem, ³  the village where David lived?” ⁴ 

He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,

If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” ¹ 

Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”

For ¹  he has raised up ²  a horn of salvation ³  for us in the house of his servant David, ⁴ 

Today ¹  your Savior is born in the city ²  of David. ³  He is Christ ⁴  the Lord.

the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, ¹  the son of David, ² 

So ¹  he called out, ²  “Jesus, Son of David, ³  have mercy ⁴  on me!”

But ¹  he said to them, “How is it that they say that the Christ ²  is David’s son? ³ 

If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” ¹ 

concerning his Son who was a descendant ¹  of David with reference to the flesh, ² 

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David; ¹  such is my gospel, ² 

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to Christ, ¹  fourteen generations.

So ¹  Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth ²  in Galilee to Judea, to the city ³  of David called Bethlehem, ⁴  because he was of the house ⁵  and family line ⁶  of David.

After removing him, God ¹  raised up ²  David their king. He testified about him: ³  ‘I have found David ⁴  the son of Jesse to be a man after my heart, ⁵  who will accomplish everything I want him to do.’ ⁶ 

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, ¹  “Have mercy ²  on us, Son of David!” ³ 

He ¹  said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

All the crowds were amazed and said, “Could this one be the Son of David?”
