Then ¹  I saw three unclean spirits ²  that looked like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

“Their mouths are ¹  full of cursing and bitterness.” ² 

What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what ¹  comes out of the mouth that defiles a person.”

But I hope to see you right away, and we will speak face to face. ¹  (1:15) Peace be with you. ²  The friends here ³  greet you. Greet the friends ⁴  there ⁵  by name.

Then ¹  he began to teach ²  them by saying:

as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from long ago, ¹ 

plotting against ¹  him, to catch ²  him in something he might say.

But I said, ‘Certainly not, Lord, for nothing defiled or ritually unclean ¹  has ever entered my mouth!’

At that ¹  the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near ²  Paul ³  to strike ⁴  him on the mouth.

For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness ¹  and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation. ² 

We have spoken freely to you, ¹  Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide to you.

He ¹  committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth. ² 

and no lie was found on their lips; ¹  they ²  are blameless.

Though I have many other ¹  things to write to you, I do not want to do so with ²  paper and ink, ³  but I hope to come visit you and speak face to face, ⁴  so that our joy may be complete. ⁵ 

but ¹  the earth came to her rescue; ²  the ground opened up ³  and swallowed the river that the dragon had spewed from his mouth.

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

Immediately ¹  Zechariah’s ²  mouth was opened and his tongue ³  released, ⁴  and he spoke, blessing God.

Then ¹  they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselves ²  from his own lips!” ³ 

A jar full of sour wine ¹  was there, so they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a branch of hyssop ²  and lifted it ³  to his mouth.

But the things God foretold ¹  long ago through ²  all the prophets – that his Christ ³  would suffer – he has fulfilled in this way.
