These are the things that defile a person; it is not eating with unwashed hands that defiles a person.” ¹ 

There is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him.” ¹ 

But Daniel made up his mind ¹  that he would not defile ²  himself with the royal delicacies or the royal wine. ³  He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself.

All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

He must not defile himself as a husband among his people so as to profane himself. ¹ 

“‘They must not come near a dead person or they will be defiled; ¹  however, for father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister, they may defile themselves.

You must expel both men and women; you must put them outside the camp, so that ¹  they will not defile their camps, among which I live.”

He must not go where there is any dead person; ¹  he must not defile himself even for his father and his mother.

He said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courtyards with corpses. Go!” So they went out and struck people down throughout the city.

You must not have sexual intercourse ¹  with the wife of your fellow citizen to become unclean with her.

Yet these men, ¹  as a result of their dreams, ²  defile the flesh, reject authority, ³  and insult ⁴  the glorious ones. ⁵ 

“‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you ¹  have been defiled with all these things.

He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

They set up their disgusting idols in the temple which I have claimed for my own ¹  and defiled it.

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

Therefore do not defile the land that you will inhabit, in which I live, for I the Lord live among the Israelites.”

I said to them, “Each of you must get rid of the detestable idols you keep before you, ¹  and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.”

So do not make the land vomit you out because you defile it ¹  just as it has vomited out the nations ²  that were before you.

You must obey my charge to not practice any of the abominable statutes ¹  that have been done before you, so that you do not ²  defile yourselves by them. I am the Lord your God.’”

“‘But I said to their children ¹  in the wilderness, “Do not follow the practices of your fathers; do not observe their regulations, ²  nor defile yourselves with their idols.
