If I must boast, ¹  I will boast about the things that show my weakness. ² 

Since many ¹  are boasting according to human standards, ²  I too will boast.

But the one who boasts must boast in the Lord. ¹ 

On behalf of such an individual I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except about my weaknesses.

They trust ¹  in their wealth and boast ²  in their great riches.

it is not from ¹  works, so that no one can boast. ² 

They spew out threats ¹  and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast. ² 

so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” ¹ 

¹ The Lord says, “Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. ²  Rich people should not boast that they are rich. ³ 

You who boast in the law dishonor God by transgressing the law!

so that no one can boast in his presence.

But as it is, ¹  you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

I will boast ¹  in the Lord; let the oppressed hear and rejoice! ² 

do not boast over the branches. But if you boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

Do not boast ¹  about tomorrow; ²  for you do not know ³  what a day may bring forth.

But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law ¹  and boast of your relationship to God ² 

For if Abraham was declared righteous ¹  by the works of the law, he has something to boast about – but not before God.

(To my disgrace ¹  I must say that we were too weak for that!) ²  But whatever anyone else dares to boast about ³  (I am speaking foolishly), I also dare to boast about the same thing. ⁴ 

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, ¹  but we ²  depend on ³  the Lord our God.

The king of Israel replied, “Tell him the one who puts on his battle gear should not boast like one who is taking it off.” ¹
