“Do you hunt prey for the lioness, and satisfy the appetite ¹  of the lions,

A laborer’s ¹  appetite ²  works on his behalf, ³  for his hunger ⁴  urges him to work. ⁵ 

and put a knife to your throat ¹  if you possess a large appetite. ² 

All of man’s labor is for nothing more than ¹  to fill his stomach ²  – yet his appetite ³  is never satisfied!

The appetite ¹  of the sluggard ²  craves ³  but gets nothing, but the desire of the diligent will be abundantly satisfied. ⁴ 

The righteous has enough food to satisfy his appetite, ¹  but the belly of the wicked lacks food. ² 

so that his life loathes food, and his soul rejects appetizing fare. ¹ 

I ¹  have refused ²  to touch such things; ³  they are like loathsome food to me. ⁴ 

The one whose appetite ¹  is satisfied loathes honey, but to the hungry mouth ²  every bitter thing is sweet.

They willfully challenged God ¹  by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.

So Death ¹  will open up its throat, and open wide its mouth; ²  Zion’s dignitaries and masses will descend into it, including those who revel and celebrate within her. ³ 

But now we ¹  are dried up, ²  and there is nothing at all before us ³  except this manna!”

People ¹  do not despise a thief when he steals to fulfill his need ²  when he is hungry.

The dogs have big appetites; they are never full. ¹  They are shepherds who have no understanding; they all go their own way, each one looking for monetary gain. ² 

It is better to be content with ¹  what the eyes can see ²  than for one’s heart always to crave more. ³  This continual longing ⁴  is futile – like ⁵  chasing the wind.

Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things. ¹ 

The appetite ¹  of the wicked desires ²  evil; his neighbor is shown no favor ³  in his eyes.

Do not crave that ruler’s ¹  delicacies, for ²  that food is deceptive. ³ 

“Whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no delight in.

For he knows no satisfaction in his appetite; ¹  he does not let anything he desires ²  escape. ³
