A quick-tempered person ¹  stirs up dissension, but one who is slow to anger ²  calms ³  a quarrel. ⁴ 

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, ¹  sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. ² 

A person who has a quick temper ¹  does foolish things, and a person with crafty schemes ²  is hated. ³ 

The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper ¹  exalts ²  folly.

Likewise also their wives ¹  must be dignified, not slanderous, temperate, faithful in every respect.

For the overseer ¹  must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, ²  not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.

The overseer ¹  then must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, ²  temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher,

Do not make friends with an angry person, ¹  and do not associate with a wrathful person,

An angry person ¹  stirs up dissension, and a wrathful person ²  is abounding in transgression. ³ 

for they aroused ¹  his temper, ²  and he spoke rashly. ³ 

and make it into an incense, ¹  a perfume, ²  the work of a perfumer. It is to be finely ground, ³  and pure and sacred.

The truly wise person ¹  restrains ²  his words, and the one who stays calm ³  is discerning.

A fool lets fly with all his temper, ¹  but a wise person keeps it back. ² 

to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; ¹  to perseverance, godliness;

The Danites said to him, “Don’t say another word to us, or some very angry men ¹  will attack you, and you and your family will die.” ² 

This displeased Jonah terribly ¹  and he became very angry. ² 

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

A person with great anger bears the penalty, ¹  but if you deliver him from it once, you will have to do it again. ² 

If the anger ¹  of the ruler flares up ²  against you, do not resign ³  from your position, ⁴  for a calm ⁵  response ⁶  can undo ⁷  great offenses.

Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.
