The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

But the wise ones took flasks of olive oil with their lamps.

Although they claimed ¹  to be wise, they became fools

“‘But just look at you! ¹  You are putting your confidence in a false belief ²  that will not deliver you. ³ 

For this reason whoever is smart ¹  keeps quiet ²  in such a time, for it is an evil ³  time.

Five ¹  of the virgins ²  were foolish, and five were wise.

For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? ¹ 

For the wise man, like ¹  the fool, will not be remembered for very long, ²  because ³  in the days to come, both will already have been forgotten. ⁴  Alas, ⁵  the wise man dies – just like ⁶  the fool!

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable? ¹ 

For God deprived her of wisdom, and did not impart understanding to her.

For your arrows pierce ¹  me, and your hand presses me down. ² 

¹ I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,” and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory! ² 

Take notice of this, ¹  you ignorant people! ²  You fools, when will you ever understand?

Whoever corrects ¹  a mocker is asking for ²  insult; ³  whoever reproves a wicked person receives ⁴  abuse.

The one who associates ¹  with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. ² 

A king’s wrath ¹  is like ²  a messenger of death, ³  but a wise person appeases it. ⁴ 

A wicked scoundrel ¹  digs up ²  evil, and his slander ³  is like a scorching fire. ⁴ 

A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.

It is not good ¹  to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable for people to seek their own glory. ² 

Do you see ¹  a man wise in his own eyes? ²  There is more hope for a fool ³  than for him.
