Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

and that he was buried, and that he was raised ¹  on the third day according to the scriptures,

And again another scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.” ¹ 

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

Then ¹  beginning with Moses and all the prophets, ²  he interpreted to them the things written about ³  himself in all the scriptures.

Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant ¹  of David ²  and comes from Bethlehem, ³  the village where David lived?” ⁴ 

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of his will be broken.” ¹ 

(For they did not yet understand ¹  the scripture that Jesus ²  must rise from the dead.) ³ 

for he refuted the Jews vigorously ¹  in public debate, ²  demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ ³  was Jesus. ⁴ 

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

Above all, you do well if you recognize ¹  this: ²  No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, ³ 

So Philip started speaking, ¹  and beginning with this scripture ²  proclaimed the good news about Jesus to him.

You study the scriptures thoroughly ¹  because you think in them you possess eternal life, ²  and it is these same scriptures ³  that testify about me,

For everything that was written in former times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.

Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, ¹  to exhortation, to teaching.

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹
