Our affection for you is not restricted, ¹  but you are restricted in your affections for us.

Then Jeremiah told Baruch, “I am no longer allowed to go ¹  into the Lord’s temple.

There were no restrictions on the drinking, ¹  for the king had instructed all of his supervisors ²  that they should do as everyone so desired. ³ 

I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.

However, you must not eat blood – pour it out on the ground like water.

His vigorous steps ¹  are restricted, ²  and his own counsel throws him down. ³ 

proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ ¹  with complete boldness ²  and without restriction. ³ 

Does the family ¹  of Jacob say, ²  ‘The Lord’s patience ³  can’t be exhausted – he would never do such things’? ⁴  To be sure, my commands bring a reward for those who obey them, ⁵ 

However, by no means eat the blood, for the blood is life itself ¹  – you must not eat the life with the meat!

These were the men who joined David in Ziklag, when he was banished ¹  from the presence of Saul son of Kish. (They were among the warriors who assisted him in battle.

And surely, he drew you ¹  from the mouth of distress, to a wide place, unrestricted, ²  and to the comfort ³  of your table filled with rich food. ⁴ 

Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.

This is what the Lord says to his chosen ¹  one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I hold ²  in order to subdue nations before him, and disarm kings, ³  to open doors before him, so gates remain unclosed:

if indeed you remain in the faith, established and firm, ¹  without shifting ²  from the hope of the gospel that you heard. This gospel has also been preached in all creation under heaven, and I, Paul, have become its servant.
