You should have reprimanded Jeremiah from Anathoth who is pretending to be a prophet among you! ¹ 

He would certainly rebuke ¹  you if you secretly ²  showed partiality!

Better is open ¹  rebuke than hidden ²  love.

So I registered a complaint with the nobles of Judah, saying to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?

You reprimand arrogant people. Those who stray from your commands are doomed. ¹ 

Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, ¹  so is a wise reprover to the ear of the one who listens. ² 

The one who reproves ¹  another ²  will in the end ³  find more favor than the one who flatters ⁴  with the tongue.

A rod and reproof ¹  impart ²  wisdom, but a child who is unrestrained ³  brings shame ⁴  to his mother. ⁵ 

And he said to them, “Why are you cowardly? Do you still not have faith?”

So I registered a complaint with the leaders, asking “Why is the temple of God neglected?” Then I gathered them and reassigned them to their positions. ¹ 

But ¹  he said to them, “Why are you cowardly, you people of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked ²  the winds and the sea, ³  and it was dead calm.

But when John rebuked Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, ³  and because of all the evil deeds ⁴  that he had done,

Now food will not bring us close to God. We are no worse if we do not eat and no better if we do.

But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.

The Ephraimites said to him, “Why have you done such a thing to us? You did not summon us ¹  when you went to fight the Midianites!” They argued vehemently with him.

(Now his father had never corrected ¹  him ²  by saying, “Why do you do such things?” He was also very handsome and had been born right after Absalom. ³ )

Because of this I am writing these things while absent, so that when I arrive ¹  I may not have to deal harshly with you ²  by using my authority – the Lord gave it to me for building up, not for tearing down!

When he told his father and his brothers, his father rebuked him, saying, “What is this dream that you had? ¹  Will I, your mother, and your brothers really come and bow down to you?” ²
