Panic and pitfall ¹  have come upon us, devastation and destruction. ² 

When he came and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” He answered, “Your servant hasn’t been anywhere.”

so ¹  he thought to himself, ²  ‘What should I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ ³ 

whose paths ¹  are morally crooked, ²  and who are devious ³  in their ways;

Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them as follows: ¹  “Do not go to Gentile regions ²  and do not enter any Samaritan town. ³ 

Then he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its families, and the family of Matri was chosen by lot. At last Saul son of Kish was chosen by lot. But when they looked for him, he was nowhere to be found.

Treasures gained by wickedness ¹  do not profit, but righteousness ²  delivers from mortal danger. ³ 

The leaders will not be able to run away and hide. ¹  The shepherds of the flocks will not be able to escape.

in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Nowhere in all the land could women be found who were as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance alongside their brothers.

Justice is driven back; godliness ¹  stands far off. Indeed, ²  honesty stumbles in the city square and morality is not even able to enter.

For you can be confident of this one thing: ¹  that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy (such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

When ¹  Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but that instead a riot was starting, he took some water, washed his hands before the crowd and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. You take care of it yourselves!” ² 

For evil does not come up from the dust, ¹  nor does trouble spring up from the ground,

Caravans ¹  turn aside from their routes; they go ²  into the wasteland ³  and perish. ⁴ 

thus ¹  I have been made to inherit ²  months of futility, ³  and nights of sorrow ⁴  have been appointed ⁵  to me.

Violent men perjure themselves, ¹  and falsely accuse me. ² 

None can compare to you among the gods, O Lord! Your exploits are incomparable! ¹
