how much less a mortal man, who is but a maggot ¹  – a son of man, who is only a worm!”

Your splendor ¹  has been brought down to Sheol, as well as the sound of your stringed instruments. ²  You lie on a bed of maggots, with a blanket of worms over you. ³ 

So they put it aside until the morning, just as Moses had commanded, and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it.

My wounds ¹  are infected and starting to smell, ²  because of my foolish sins. ³ 

I will put your flesh on the mountains, and fill the valleys with your maggot-infested carcass. ¹ 

But they did not listen to Moses; some ¹  kept part of it until morning, and it was full ²  of worms and began to stink, and Moses was angry with them.

My body ¹  is clothed ²  with worms ³  and dirty scabs; ⁴  my skin is broken ⁵  and festering.

I will be like a moth to Ephraim, like wood rot ¹  to the house of Judah.

“They will go out and observe the corpses of those who rebelled against me, for the maggots that eat them will not die, ¹  and the fire that consumes them will not die out. ²  All people will find the sight abhorrent.” ³
