Laziness brings on ¹  a deep sleep, ²  and the idle person ³  will go hungry. ⁴ 

She watches over ¹  the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. ² 

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

When it was about nine o’clock in the morning, ¹  he went out again and saw others standing around in the marketplace without work.

And besides that, going around ¹  from house to house they learn to be lazy, ²  and they are not only lazy, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things they should not. ³ 

But Pharaoh replied, ¹  “You are slackers! Slackers! ²  That is why you are saying, ‘Let us go sacrifice to the Lord.’

Because of laziness the roof ¹  caves in, and because of idle hands ²  the house leaks.

They sing ¹  to the tune of ²  stringed instruments; ³  like David they invent ⁴  musical instruments.

For there are many ¹  rebellious people, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those with Jewish connections, ² 

And about five o’clock that afternoon ¹  he went out and found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why are you standing here all day without work?’

And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their ¹  condemnation pronounced long ago ²  is not sitting idly by; ³  their ⁴  destruction is not asleep.

For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life, ¹  not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others. ² 

In all hard work ¹  there is profit, but merely talking about it ²  only brings ³  poverty. ⁴ 

I ¹  tell you that on the day of judgment, people will give an account for every worthless word they speak.

For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline ¹  among you,

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

But you must require ¹  of them the same quota of bricks that they were making before. ²  Do not reduce it, for they are slackers. ³  That is why they are crying, ‘Let us go sacrifice to our God.’

But we command you, brothers and sisters, ¹  in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined ²  life ³  and not according to the tradition they ⁴  received from us.

For this is no idle word for you – it is your life! By this word you will live a long time in the land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”

Sow your seed in the morning, and do not stop working ¹  until the evening; ²  for you do not know which activity ³  will succeed ⁴  – whether this one or that one, or whether both will prosper equally. ⁵
