You make us like filthy scum ¹  in the estimation ²  of the nations.

He raises the poor from the dirt, and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile, ¹ 

They reap fodder ¹  in the field, and glean ²  in the vineyard of the wicked.

For you hate instruction and reject my words. ¹ 

and throw them into the fiery furnace, ¹  where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

ה (He) Those who once feasted on delicacies ¹  are now starving to death ²  in the streets. Those who grew up ³  wearing expensive clothes ⁴  are now dying ⁵  amid garbage. ⁶ 

I am about to discipline your children ¹  and will spread offal ²  on your faces, ³  the very offal produced at your festivals, and you will be carried away along with it.

when people lie about us, we answer in a friendly manner. We are the world’s dirt and scum, even now.

I grind them as fine as the dust of the ground; I crush them and stomp on them like clay ¹  in the streets.

Edom’s ¹  streams will be turned into pitch and her soil into brimstone; her land will become burning pitch.

But the wicked are like a surging sea that is unable to be quiet; its waves toss up mud and sand.

Babylon will become a heap of ruins. Jackals will make their home there. ¹  It will become an object of horror and of hissing scorn, a place where no one lives. ² 

Now the works of the flesh ¹  are obvious: ²  sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,
