But Sarah noticed ¹  the son of Hagar the Egyptian – the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham – mocking. ² 

Carrying out a wicked scheme ¹  is enjoyable ²  to a fool, and so is wisdom for the one who has discernment. ³ 

I wear sackcloth and they ridicule me. ¹ 

I said of partying, ¹  “It is folly,” and of self-indulgent pleasure, ²  “It accomplishes nothing!” ³ 

And they began making fun ¹  of him, because they knew ²  that she was dead. ³ 

But others jeered at the speakers, ¹  saying, “They are drunk on new wine!” ² 

The messengers journeyed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, but people mocked and ridiculed them. ¹ 

Otherwise, ¹  when he has laid ²  a foundation and is not able to finish the tower, ³  all who see it ⁴  will begin to make fun of ⁵  him.

All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

You made us ¹  an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. ² 

You have made our neighbors dislike us, ¹  and our enemies insult us.

Fools mock ¹  at reparation, ²  but among the upright there is favor. ³ 

Whoever brings a fool ¹  into the world ²  does so ³  to his grief, and the father of a fool has no joy. ⁴ 

Wine ¹  is a mocker ²  and strong drink is a brawler; whoever goes astray by them is not wise. ³ 

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, ¹  for he will despise the wisdom of your words. ² 

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of merrymaking. ¹ 

he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they began making fun of him. ¹ 

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence ¹  and gathered the whole cohort ²  around him.

In ¹  the same way even the chief priests – together with the experts in the law ²  and elders ³  – were mocking him: ⁴ 

Now ¹  the men who were holding Jesus ²  under guard began to mock him and beat him.
