the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, ¹  together with a mighty army. They fell down, ²  never to rise again; they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:

When I extinguish you, I will cover the sky; I will darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not shine. ¹ 

and in all of this, ¹  by taking up the shield ²  of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Do not extinguish the Spirit.

My spirit is broken, ¹  my days have faded out, ²  the grave ³  awaits me.

“Yes, ¹  the lamp ²  of the wicked is extinguished; his flame of fire ³  does not shine.

The one who curses ¹  his father and his mother, his lamp ²  will be extinguished in the blackest ³  darkness.

They were hungry and thirsty; they fainted from exhaustion. ¹ 

A continual fire must be kept burning on the altar. It must not be extinguished.

When they are scorched, ¹  they dry up, when it is hot, they vanish ²  from their place.

for the evil person has no future, ¹  and the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished. ² 

And the light shines on ¹  in the darkness, ²  but ³  the darkness has not mastered it. ⁴ 

They surrounded me like bees. But they disappeared as quickly ¹  as a fire among thorns. ²  Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.

A crushed reed he will not break, a dim wick he will not extinguish; ¹  he will faithfully make just decrees. ² 

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to David’s aid, striking the Philistine down and killing him. Then David’s men took an oath saying, “You will not go out to battle with us again! You must not extinguish the lamp of Israel!”

The light in his tent grows dark; his lamp above him is extinguished. ¹ 

If I smiled at them, they hardly believed it; ¹  and they did not cause the light of my face to darken. ² 

And everyone ¹  will see that I, the Lord, have burned it; it will not be extinguished.’”

Now the entire family has risen up against your servant, saying, ‘Turn over the one who struck down his brother, so that we can execute him and avenge the death ¹  of his brother whom he killed. In so doing we will also destroy the heir.’ They want to extinguish my remaining coal, ²  leaving no one on the face of the earth to carry on the name of my husband.”

and the lamp of God had not yet been extinguished. Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord as well; the ark of God was also there.
