Do not envy a violent man, ¹  and do not choose to imitate ²  any of his ways;

(For he knew that they had handed him over because of envy.) ¹ 

Do not let your heart envy ¹  sinners, but rather be zealous in fearing the Lord ²  all the time.

I made it beautiful with its many branches; all the trees of Eden, in the garden of God, envied it.

envying, ¹  murder, ²  drunkenness, carousing, ³  and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!

he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in controversies and verbal disputes. This gives rise to envy, dissension, slanders, evil suspicions,

For where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is disorder and every evil practice.

For ¹  wrath kills the foolish person, ²  and anger ³  slays the silly one.

For I envied those who are proud, as I observed ¹  the prosperity ²  of the wicked.

Then I considered ¹  all the skillful work ²  that is done: Surely it is nothing more than ³  competition ⁴  between one person and another. ⁵  This also is profitless – like ⁶  chasing the wind.

What they loved, ¹  as well as what they hated ²  and envied, ³  perished long ago, and they no longer have a part in anything that happens on earth. ⁴ 

Ephraim’s jealousy will end, ¹  and Judah’s hostility ²  will be eliminated. Ephraim will no longer be jealous of Judah, and Judah will no longer be hostile toward Ephraim.
