Do not fret because of evil people or be envious of wicked people,

For I envied those who are proud, as I observed ¹  the prosperity ²  of the wicked.

Do not envy evil people, ¹  do not desire ²  to be with them;

By David. Do not fret ²  when wicked men seem to succeed! ³  Do not envy evildoers!

In the camp they resented ¹  Moses, and Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest. ² 

Am I not ¹  permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ ² 

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.

For I see that you are bitterly envious ¹  and in bondage to sin.”

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says, ¹  “The spirit that God ²  caused ³  to live within us has an envious yearning”? ⁴ 

The ransom ¹  of a person’s ²  life is his wealth, but the poor person hears no threat. ³ 

Do not eat the food of a stingy person, ¹  do not crave his delicacies;

The ¹  patriarchs, because they were jealous of Joseph, sold ²  him into Egypt. But ³  God was with him,

You will see trouble in my dwelling place! ¹  Israel will experience blessings, ²  but there will not be an old man in your ³  house for all time. ⁴ 

And we have different gifts ¹  according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.

Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for me? ¹  I wish that ²  all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

They have made me jealous ¹  with false gods, ²  enraging me with their worthless gods; ³  so I will make them jealous with a people they do not recognize, ⁴  with a nation slow to learn ⁵  I will enrage them.

But the Jews became jealous, ¹  and gathering together some worthless men from the rabble in the marketplace, ²  they formed a mob ³  and set the city in an uproar. ⁴  They attacked Jason’s house, ⁵  trying to find Paul and Silas ⁶  to bring them out to the assembly. ⁷ 

But again I ask, didn’t Israel understand? ¹  First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; with a senseless nation I will provoke you to anger.” ² 

I ask then, they did not stumble into an irrevocable fall, ¹  did they? Absolutely not! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel ²  jealous.

You desire and you do not have; you murder and envy and you cannot obtain; you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask;
