If I must boast, ¹  I will boast about the things that show my weakness. ² 

¹ The Lord says, “Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. ²  Rich people should not boast that they are rich. ³ 

who said, ¹  “Let’s take over ²  the pastures of God!”

But as it is, ¹  you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

You are happy because you conquered Lo-Debar. ¹  You say, “Did we not conquer Karnaim ²  by our own power?”

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.

They spew out threats ¹  and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast. ² 

Every shrewd ¹  person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays ²  his folly.

“It’s worthless! It’s worthless!” ¹  says the buyer, ²  but when he goes on his way, he boasts. ³ 

Do not boast ¹  about tomorrow; ²  for you do not know ³  what a day may bring forth.

Then the Lord provoked ¹  their adversaries to attack them, ²  he stirred up ³  their enemies –

But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law ¹  and boast of your relationship to God ² 

You who boast in the law dishonor God by transgressing the law!

So then, no more boasting about mere mortals! ¹  For everything belongs to you,

What I am saying with this boastful confidence ¹  I do not say the way the Lord would. ²  Instead it is, as it were, foolishness.

it is not from ¹  works, so that no one can boast. ² 

Haman then recounted to them his fabulous wealth, ¹  his many sons, ²  and how the king had magnified him and exalted him over the king’s other officials and servants.

If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the Lord, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things,” ¹  says the Lord.

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, ¹  you rebellious people of Ammon, ²  who trust in your riches and say, ‘Who would dare to attack us?’

Burn a thank offering of bread made with yeast! ¹  Make a public display of your voluntary offerings! ²  For you love to do this, you Israelites.” The sovereign Lord is speaking!
