who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent ¹  but by the power of an indestructible life.

Then ¹  Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for an accusation ²  against this man.”

You may buy it from your fellow citizen according to the number of years since ¹  the last jubilee; he may sell it to you according to the years of produce that are left. ² 

And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

I would rather appeal ¹  to you on the basis of love – I, Paul, an old man ²  and even now a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus ³  –

He will take delight in obeying the Lord. ¹  He will not judge by mere appearances, ²  or make decisions on the basis of hearsay. ³ 

Now this is the basis for judging: ¹  that the light has come into the world and people ²  loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.

Pilate asked, ¹  “What is truth?” ²  When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders ³  and announced, ⁴  “I find no basis for an accusation ⁵  against him.

he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,

So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood – for on that basis ¹  the people received the law – what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?

All of your creatures ¹  wait for you to provide them with food on a regular basis. ² 

Everything looks to you in anticipation, ¹  and you provide them with food on a regular basis. ² 

Though ¹  they found ²  no basis ³  for a death sentence, ⁴  they asked Pilate to have him executed.

When ¹  they had heard my case, ²  they wanted to release me, ³  because there was no basis for a death sentence ⁴  against me.

Am I saying these things only on the basis of common sense, ¹  or does the law not say this as well?

Do not accept an accusation against an elder unless it can be confirmed by two or three witnesses. ¹ 

And on the basis of faith in Jesus’ ¹  name, ²  his very name has made this man – whom you see and know – strong. The ³  faith that is through Jesus ⁴  has given him this complete health in the presence ⁵  of you all.

“‘You ¹  must not deal unjustly in judgment: ²  you must neither show partiality to the poor nor honor the rich. ³  You must judge your fellow citizen fairly. ⁴ 

The land must not be sold without reclaim ¹  because the land belongs to me, for you are foreigners and residents with me. ² 

He must be with the one who bought him ¹  like a yearly hired worker. ²  The one who bought him ³  must not rule over him harshly in your sight.
