John’s baptism ¹  – was it from heaven or from people?” ² 

John’s ¹  disciples informed him about all these things. So ²  John called ³  two of his disciples

So ¹  he sent and had John beheaded in the prison.

He had James, the brother of John, executed with a sword. ¹ 

(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.) ¹ 

John’s baptism – was it from heaven or from people? ¹  Answer me.”

Now a dispute came about between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew ¹  concerning ceremonial washing. ² 

Barnabas wanted to bring John called Mark along with them too,

Now ¹  John’s ²  disciples and the Pharisees ³  were fasting. ⁴  So ⁵  they came to Jesus ⁶  and said, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”

So Paul ¹  said, “Into what then were you baptized?” “Into John’s baptism,” they replied. ² 

In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness ¹  of Judea proclaiming,

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John appeared. ¹ 

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

Now ¹  when the other ten ²  heard this, ³  they became angry with James and John.

But ¹  his mother replied, ²  “No! He must be named ³  John.” ⁴ 

A man came, sent from God, whose name was John. ¹ 

These things happened in Bethany ¹  across the Jordan River ²  where John was baptizing.

Again the next day John ¹  was standing there ²  with two of his disciples.

You have sent to John, ¹  and he has testified to the truth.
