Then ¹  Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death – the lake of fire.

And you, Capernaum, ¹  will you be exalted to heaven? ²  No, you will be thrown down to Hades! ³ 

because you will not leave my soul in Hades, ¹  nor permit your Holy One to experience ²  decay.

David by foreseeing this ¹  spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, ²  that he was neither abandoned to Hades, ³  nor did his body ⁴  experience ⁵  decay. ⁶ 

and the one who lives! I ¹  was dead, but look, now I am alive – forever and ever – and I hold the keys of death and of Hades! ² 

The ¹  sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death ²  and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds.

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades ¹  will not overpower it.

And in hell, ¹  as he was in torment, ²  he looked up ³  and saw Abraham far off with Lazarus at his side. ⁴ 

And you, Capernaum, ¹  will you be exalted to heaven? ²  No, you will be thrown down to Hades! ³  For if the miracles done among you had been done in Sodom, it would have continued to this day.

So ¹  I looked ²  and here came ³  a pale green ⁴  horse! The ⁵  name of the one who rode it ⁶  was Death, and Hades followed right behind. ⁷  They ⁸  were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill its population with the sword, ⁹  famine, and disease, and by the wild animals of the earth.

Her house is the way to the grave, ¹  going down ²  to the chambers ³  of death.

If you strike ¹  him with the rod, you will deliver him ²  from death. ³ 

But you were brought down ¹  to Sheol, to the remote slopes of the pit. ² 

Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. ¹ 

But they do not realize ¹  that the dead ²  are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave. ³ 

The path of life is upward ¹  for the wise person, ²  to ³  keep him from going downward to Sheol. ⁴ 

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” ¹ 

But ¹  no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or look into it.

You take olive oil as tribute ¹  to your king, ²  along with many perfumes. ³  You send your messengers to a distant place; you go all the way to Sheol. ⁴ 

Even if they could dig down into the netherworld, ¹  my hand would pull them up from there. Even if they could climb up to heaven, I would drag them down from there.
