Acquire ¹  truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding.

Evil people ¹  do not understand justice, ²  but those who seek the Lord ³  understand it all.

A rich person ¹  is wise in his own eyes, ²  but a discerning poor person can evaluate him properly. ³ 

The greedy person ¹  stirs up dissension, ²  but the one who trusts ³  in the Lord will prosper. ⁴ 

A servant ¹  cannot be corrected ²  by words, for although ³  he understands, there is no answer. ⁴ 

Surely ¹  I am more brutish ²  than any other human being, ³  and I do not have human understanding; ⁴ 

Stop trusting in human beings, whose life’s breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration?

The mind that acts rashly will possess discernment ¹  and the tongue that stutters will speak with ease and clarity.

Then the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?”

They again replied, “Let the king inform us ¹  of the dream; then we will disclose its ²  interpretation.”

this is the interpretation, O king! It is the decision of the Most High that this has happened to my lord the king.

This is the interpretation of the words: ¹  As for mene ²  – God has numbered your kingdom’s days and brought it to an end.

Bunch yourselves together like straw, ¹  you undesirable ²  nation,
