They served only for matters of food and drink ¹  and various washings; they are external regulations ²  imposed until the new order came. ³ 

But Leah replied, ¹  “Wasn’t it enough that you’ve taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes too?” “All right,” ²  Rachel said, “he may sleep ³  with you tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.”

The Lord values the lives of his faithful followers. ¹ 

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against ¹  the Lord. ²
