This is why Joshua had to circumcise them: All the men old enough to fight when they left Egypt died on the journey through the desert after they left Egypt. ¹ 

They went from Midian to Paran; they took some men from Paran and went to Egypt. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, supplied him with a house and food and even assigned him some land. ¹ 

This happened because the Israelites sinned against the Lord their God, who brought them up from the land of Egypt and freed them from the power of ¹  Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped ²  other gods;

“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: I will destroy the idols, and put an end to the gods of Memphis. There will no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt; so I will make the land of Egypt fearful. ¹ 

and rescued him from all his troubles, and granted him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made ¹  him ruler over Egypt and over all his household.

“So now Pharaoh should look ¹  for a wise and discerning man ²  and give him authority ³  over all the land of Egypt.

Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they owned land there. They were fruitful and increased rapidly in number.

But ¹  the midwives feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live. ² 

So the people spread out ¹  through all the land of Egypt to collect stubble for straw.

The magicians did the same ¹  with their secret arts and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt too. ² 

There will be a great cry throughout the whole land of Egypt, such as there has never been, ¹  nor ever will be again. ² 

He will infect you with all the diseases of Egypt ¹  that you dreaded, and they will persistently afflict you. ² 

I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt down when I intervened in their land. ¹  Then I brought you out.

Then Saul struck down the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to ¹  Shur, which is next to Egypt.

They come with red cloth ¹  from Egypt, Ethiopia ²  voluntarily offers tribute ³  to God.

He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of their reproductive power ¹  in the tents of Ham.

At that time Israel will be the third member of the group, along with Egypt and Assyria, and will be a recipient of blessing ¹  in the earth. ² 

There at home they will say, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is just a big noise! ¹  He has let the most opportune moment pass by.’ ² 

He will extend his power ¹  against other lands; the land of Egypt will not escape.

Then he got up, took the child and his mother during ¹  the night, and went to Egypt.
