No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, because the patch will pull away from the garment and the tear will be worse.

And if the house is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ¹ 

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him, ¹  a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors ²  and sinners!’ ³  But wisdom is vindicated ⁴  by her deeds.” ⁵ 

No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and the tear becomes worse.

Indeed, as a result of him the thoughts ¹  of many hearts will be revealed ²  – and a sword ³  will pierce your own soul as well!” ⁴ 

saying, “If you had only known on this day, ¹  even you, the things that make for peace! ²  But now they are hidden ³  from your eyes.

While they were saying these things, Jesus ¹  himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” ² 

I sent you to reap what you did not work for; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

You people ¹  are doing the deeds of your father.” Then ²  they said to Jesus, ³  “We were not born as a result of immorality! ⁴  We have only one Father, God himself.”

His disciples asked him, ¹  “Rabbi, who committed the sin that caused him to be born blind, this man ²  or his parents?” ³ 

Thus Jesus no longer went ¹  around publicly ²  among the Judeans, ³  but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, ⁴  and stayed there with his disciples.

But when they believed Philip as he was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God ¹  and the name of Jesus Christ, ²  they began to be baptized, ³  both men and women.

They also bestowed many honors, ¹  and when we were preparing to sail, ²  they gave ³  us all the supplies we needed. ⁴ 

Therefore God gave them over ¹  in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor ²  their bodies among themselves. ³ 

So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people ¹  because ²  all sinned –

Now the law came in ¹  so that the transgression ²  may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more,

Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The ¹  rest were hardened,

Just as you were formerly disobedient to God, but have now received mercy due to their disobedience,

so they too have now been disobedient in order that, by the mercy shown to you, they too may now ¹  receive mercy.
