With the authority of the Lord ¹  he cried out against the altar, “O altar, altar! This is what the Lord says, ‘Look, a son named Josiah will be born to the Davidic dynasty. He will sacrifice on you the priests of the high places who offer sacrifices on you. Human bones will be burned on you.’” ² 

(I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) ¹  For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

The firstborn of every womb which they present to the Lord, whether human or animal, will be yours. Nevertheless, the firstborn sons you must redeem, ¹  and the firstborn males of unclean animals you must redeem.

A carpenter takes measurements; ¹  he marks out an outline of its form; ²  he scrapes ³  it with chisels, and marks it with a compass. He patterns it after the human form, ⁴  like a well-built human being, and puts it in a shrine. ⁵ 

When the scouts survey ¹  the land and see a human bone, they will place a sign by it, until those assigned to burial duty have buried it ²  in the valley of Hamon-Gog.

When a woman gives birth, she has distress ¹  because her time ²  has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being ³  has been born into the world. ⁴ 

You will be driven from human society, and you will live with the wild animals. You will be fed grass like oxen, and seven periods of time will pass by for you before ¹  you understand that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms and gives them to whomever he wishes.”

This is the record ¹  of the family line ²  of Adam. When God created humankind, ³  he made them ⁴  in the likeness of God.

He created them male and female; when they were created, he blessed them and named them “humankind.” ¹ 

When humankind ¹  began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born ²  to them, ³ 

One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, but ²  one who beats a person to death must be put to death.

“‘Whoever touches ¹  the corpse ²  of any person ³  will be ceremonially unclean ⁴  seven days.

They talked about the God of Jerusalem as if he were one of the man-made gods of the nations of the earth.

“Is ¹  a mortal man ²  righteous ³  before ⁴  God? Or a man pure ⁵  before his Creator? ⁶ 

Are your days like the days of a mortal, or your years like the years ¹  of a mortal,

What is man that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?

And he said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord ¹  – that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’” ² 

Now in this, you are not right – I answer you, ¹  for God is greater than a human being. ² 

Your wickedness affects only ¹  a person like yourself, and your righteousness only other people. ² 

to cause it to rain on an uninhabited land, ¹  a desert where there are no human beings, ²
